Trying not to overthink about bloggin'

Since I posted that last thing about where to blog, I've been thinking even more about blogging... which is leading to a bit of analysis paralysis. Although to be honest, I've mostly decided what I actually want to do, which is to stick with Bearblog.

The main things holding me back from using Bear more are a) I like images and I don't have hosting on the free plan, and b) the plain text editor is maybe a bit too bare-bones for me. Like, I need at least a Discourse-level editor, I think. (As I've said before, I could just type everything up in Obsidian, but some stuff seems to break when you copy-paste it over for whatever reason).

The first is solvable: get a lifetime sub. I'll have to save up for it (I presume it's in USD), but it's doable, if not my No 1 priority right now. The second... is also solvable! I think! Seems like there's a fair amount of plugins and whatnot floating around for Bear, like one that changes the text editor box to at the very least have buttons (customizable buttons even). I hope it also has keyboard shortcuts. I'll re-link it, or probably more likely make a whole new article, when I find it again, but it's all fairly easy to look up. Implementing it and tweaking it might be a different story, but I have days when I have the energy for that, so it should work out.

(Also when I idly emailed Hermann [who runs Bearblog] wondering if there was a way to get rich links working on bear, he emailed me back a released plugin he had made like three days later. I haven't tested it yet, but I have to admit, that did a lot to endear me towards Bear.)

There's also a bit of a mindset thing. I think one thing that lodged in my head was: there's a lot of Bearblog posts I see (mainly in discovery) that are in spirit fairly personal stuff about people's lives, and I'm not sure I want to do that, at least here. But I do want to yap - about gadgets I'm using, games I'm playing, whatever comes to mind. And then I realised: even if I'm just doing stupid lists of stuff I find useful, whatever! It's my bearblog! I can do what I want!

So yeah. I guess I'll do what I want. At some point.
